Though AOC and Elon (along with plenty of other leftists and Elon) have had their troubles and differences lately, it’s important to remember that this is hardly the first time that Elon has gone scorched Earth when dealing with AOC and her far-left friends.
In fact, what might have been his best smackdown of AOC happened back in April of 2022. Then, AOC began the fight when she decided to post about billionaires, poverty, and what she sees the end goals of the American far-left as being.
In the tweet, AOC posted about billionaires and the left, particularly the left’s priorities, saying, “Billionaires be like “the extreme far left is taking over” when the “extreme far left” in the US is “medicine shouldn’t bankrupt you,” “wages should cover rent,” & “maybe it’s bad that Wall St companies profit off mass surveillance, manufactured housing crises, and caging people.’”
Continuing, AOC then implied billionaires shouldn’t have much political power because of their relatively low numbers, saying, “The number of billionaires in the US couldn’t even fill an apartment building, but the number of people they negatively impact is only growing. All the US billionaire votes combined couldn’t even come in 2nd for an NY city council election. That’s why they stay pressed.”
Predictably, AOC’s ridiculous tweet drew insane responses from people who called for everything from confiscating the wealth of billionaires to executing the rich like happened during the French Revolution. One of those responses, for example, said, “I suppose my idea will never pass Congress, which has been bought and sold, but I say we cap individuals at $1 billion and don’t let them start corporations to hold the rest. And if they don’t like it, c.f. 1789 France. Nobody needs or truly earns that much money.”
Others said things like, “Does anyone have a precise plan as to how AOC plans to actually tax the rich? I constantly see comparisons of billionaire’s net worth vs what they’re taxed, and never see anything about their actual income vs what they’re taxed” and“Income inequality is having all sorts of negative effects on society, including the rise of authoritarian governments. Libertarians like Musk are idealists and their model is faulty but they can afford to ignore that while the rest of us cannot.”
But that wasn’t all AOC tweeted. She then turned her sights on Elon and bizarrely blamed him for an “explosion of hate crimes”, saying: “Tired of having to collectively stress about what explosion of hate crimes is happening bc some billionaire with an ego problem unilaterally controls a massive communication platform and skews it because Tucker Carlson or Peter Thiel took him to dinner and made him feel special.”
And that’s when Elon absolutely destroyed her with a hilarious response, saying “Stop hitting on me, I’m really shy ☺️“. That, of course, is a reference to when AOC said that those Republicans who criticize her are really just hitting on her.
Even better was that it a) ratioed her (got more likes than her comment) in minutes and b) triggered the left yet again, with Nina Turner, for example, saying “The safety of marginalized communities is not a joke. The fact that you think it is proves her point.”
Elon’s an incredibly hilarious, genius Twitter troll. Hopefully, we’ll get to see even more of these funny comments now that he owns Twitter, as seems likely given his drift toward the right and occasional willingness to jump in and mock the left.
